Yeah Goodwill! Every once in a while I take a stroll through one of our local Goodwill stores. More often than not I end up leaving empty-handed though. I’ve found that their prices have increased significantly over the past couple of years. And I mean c’mon….who wants to pay $149 for a beat up dresser that has to be refinished? Definitely not me. I’d much rather pay $149 for a dresser that someone else already sweated over…..hint hint hint. ;O)

That’s why I was so excited to find this little beauty. Yes, it was a bit beat up. Lots of dings and scratches. But the bones were nice. I stripped the entire piece, restained the top and the lower shelf with a custom mixed walnut/gray combination, and painted the skirt and legs with Benjamin Moore’s Horizon.  I then slightly distressed the edges and sealed the top for durability.

Mahogany bench

I found this mahogany bench from a private seller. The good part, it has beautiful lines and curves. The bad part, it smelled as though it had been in a damp basement for a while. And the fabric was VERY dated. So I completely replaced the seat base, and covered it with new foam and a modern, colorful fabric from Waverly.  I painted the wood to match the fabric, with a creamy antique white. Wouldn’t this seat look great in front of a vanity? Or maybe in an entryway? It’s a great place to sit down and put your shoes on.

Pier 1 wicker seats

Another one of my yard sale gems.  This set of Pier 1 natural wicker seats have a great shape, and the cushions looked brand new.  All it took to bring these back to life was a light sanding and a few cans of spray paint.  And I have to say, I like them even better painted.  And they’re super comfy too! Perfect for a covered porch or patio, or for a screened in porch.

Old bench table

I was scouring Craigslist one day, looking for a new kitchen table for myself. Or at least something I could turn into a kitchen table. And I came across the coolest looking vintage workbench. I absolutely loved the shape and size and thought it might make the perfect table for my kitchen. It was pretty dingy and beat up so I made a new, large top for it, which I just screwed to the existing top, And then I added a new wood top to the shelf below so it would match. Then the entire lower shelf was wrapped in new wood trim so that when I painted it, it would be nice and smooth. The top and the shelf got a beautiful coat of black stain. And the remainder of the table got a beach glass blue paint. It fits 4-6 adults comfortably.

Set of 4 Chippendale style chairs

This item has been sold IMG_7332These beautiful Chippendale style chairs were in fantastic shape. Aside from the ho hum cream fabric and the mahogany stain, they were structurally sound and in fantastic condition for vintage chairs. All they needed was a little paint and fabric and voila, new chairs! The set includes 2 armless chairs, and 2 captain’s chairs.  I painted them with the same color as this adorable country style, solid pine table – they make the perfect set for your kitchen or breakfast nook!
