I love, love, love this dresser. A customer brought it to me with this picture as inspiration:
Red is totally out of my comfort zone. Don’t get me wrong, I love color. That is, when it’s in small doses. That’s why I was so happy when my customer told me they wanted red, with black glaze. Jobs like this give me a chance to live vicariously through my customers. My customers are so much more brave than me!
Their plan is to put it in their son’s room. But I can envision this moving into a foyer down the road. What a great entrance into the house that would be! It would look a little like this:
DIMENSIONS: | 42″ wide, 18″ deep, 32″ tall |
---|---|
PAINT: | Behr Premium Plus, Interior Satin Enamel, in Glidden’s Red Rose Bouquet (WGR25) |
GLAZE: | Valspar Antiquing Glaze |
SEALER: | SC Johnson Paste Wax |
The gorgeous walnut was still in pretty good shape, so it didn’t need much structural help, aside from one foot that had split in half. There were a few nicks and scratches, but those were easy fixes. After 2 coats of gray primer I gave her 2 coats of rich red (Red Rose Bouquet). That was followed up by black antiquing glaze and some paste wax for durability and sheen. Last but not least, I replaced the old brass pulls with some beautiful oil rubbed bronze knobs.
